There are 175 seats in the Assembly of Andhra Pradesh. 88 seats are required for a party to form the government. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by Chandrababu Naidu, won a resounding 102 seats in the 2014 Assembly elections. The Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which won 67 seats, finished as the second runner-up. While competing against the two regional powerhouses, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a national party, could only win four seats. The actor Pawan Kalyan’s organization, the 2014-founded Jana Sena Party, the YSRCP, and the TDP have engaged in a primary battle for the 2019 Assembly elections.
